Native and cross-chain pairs
What each pair type is made of, where its price comes from, and what it costs.
| Native pair | Cross-chain pair | |
|---|---|---|
| Pair coin | SOL or any Solana coin | A top coin from Base, BNB Chain, Ethereum or Robinhood |
| Where the pair coin's price comes from | The Solana pool itself | A signed price from the pair coin's home chain |
| What backs the pair side | The pair coin, held in the pool | The coin's own SOL reserve |
| Trading fee | 1% | 2.5% (1% coin fee plus 1.5% pair fee) |
| What traders pay with | SOL | SOL |
Native pairs
A native pair is a standard Solana pool with your coin on one side and the pair coin on the other. SOL is the default. Pairing with another Solana coin, such as a community coin you want to align with, puts that coin in the pool, and buying your coin also buys the pair coin.
Cross-chain pairs
A cross-chain pair lets your coin trade against a coin that lives on another chain, while every trade stays on Solana. The pair side exists only inside your coin's pool: it is priced from the pair coin's home chain and paid out in SOL from your coin's reserve. Nobody holds it in a wallet, so it cannot be traded anywhere else or moved away from your coin.
How a cross-chain pair works covers the mechanism, Prices and freshness covers the price feed, and The coin reserve covers what pays sellers.
Which one to pick
- Pick SOL for the simplest pair with no extra fee.
- Pick a Solana coin to tie your coin to that community, with the same 1% fee.
- Pick a coin from another chain to tie your coin to that coin's price and community, traded by everyone on Solana.
